very good
yeah so many jokes we could make up here
with each other can we
all right
um click to wave any unscheduled public
appearances tonight mayor no I have not
received any cards okay thank you so
much
next one uh first I want to say hello to
Valley Christian government class I'm
sure thank you for for coming and uh
we always appreciate our students here
and uh
and uh sorry you don't hear horrific
debates tonight about any issues but uh
maybe come again another time
so with that I'd like to start with uh
just uh announcements to end our session
here
got three or four first I'd like to talk
about are Asian American Pacific
Islander heritage month which is this
month every may we celebrate Asian
American and Pacific Islander Heritage
Month the library is hosting several
special story times throughout the month
and on Saturday May 20th a week from
this Setter we will be hosting our
second annual Asian American Community
Conference It's a Wonderful opportunity
to connect with the community to listen
learn and engage in meaningful
conversations there will be a keynote
speaker Lily Chen Plus panel discussions
and networking opportunities so space is
limited so make sure that you register
secondly yesterday
we had our one year anniversary of
golden neighbors several council members
were there this is a wonderful program
that began a year ago this month it
connects senior residents with cost of
living assistance home repairs and
everyday supplies such as food and
toiletries staff hosted a celebration
this week and handed out bags just
chucked full of items and so far the
city has served more than 200 residents
as part of this this engagement in our
community and golden neighbors is up for
a best neighborhood program award by the
neighborhoods USA organization so we're
excited to see how we do this year at
Noosa
thirdly I'd like to uh again give kudos
to one of our non-profits Ascend this
morning they had their ascends egg
benefit breakfast as you see on the
screen many of us were able to make this
as well as several council members and
the mayor from Gilbert as well this
organization helps provide food and
resources to people in need they also
have literacy programs children's
programs
others that connect people who are
experiencing homeless and also provide
emergency lodging Services their work is
so important to our community and Ascent
has been engaged in Chandler for well I
guess close to about 50 years now pretty
exciting
and then lastly this is what I'm a
little nervous about
so we have a a new business opening in
town on Saturday called piefection
it's a new Sweet Spot in town now you're
wondering why am I nervous is it because
of the amounts of sugar available
it's pretty close to my house and Dobson
and Chandler Boulevard they're doing
their ribbon cutting on Saturday
everyone's invited there's lots of
samples games raffles
and it turns out they're also having a
pie in your face attraction featuring
yours truly
so uh if you've ever wanted to throw a
pie in my face
Council
our community I've already signed up
okay uh
here is your chance there is a there is
a charge to do that and all proceeds
will go to the Ukrainian children's
Relief Fund so not only is it a sweet
deal to hit the mayor in the face with a
pie but you'll be helping with a good
cause as well
councilmember encinas
just a few quick announcements I know uh
vice mayor you're probably gonna be
speaking about the event um that we had
for
um
the military
oh my gosh graduates sorry but so I'll
let you speak more on that I just wanted
to just say what a great event it was
um our military and Veterans commission
put on it was my first time being part
of that and honoring our youth that are
making that commitment to our military
service it was a great event
um also it is Nurses Appreciation Week
um so
thank you thank you
um but I will be visiting some of our
nurses down at dignity Dignity Health um
tomorrow I'm taking them some treats uh
to show our appreciation there and also
yesterday was Mexican Mother's Day and
we're also be celebrating this weekend
so happy Mother's Day to all the mothers
my mom gets to celebrate it twice so
yeah that's all my announcements for
today
maybe you should bring her something
from piefection what do you think
we we've got a long relationship maybe
it'll be some good retail therapy to
throw a pie in my face
council member Ellis thank you mayor
thank you for saying the happiness week
to me because we all celebrating Nurses
Week
this week during my Facebook live
earlier I had a nurse here with me at
the studio she her name is Trish she's
from where you're going which is Dignity
Health and she is the senior director
for the nursing department over there we
discussed the importance of having
nurses in our lives
don't you just love to have a nurse in
your life and that's me when I first got
my they put that's my mom and my aunt
with me and my left your right and then
that's when I got my BSN over at uh at
GCU so I am an alumni close to all the
nurses out there please take the time to
express your gratitude to some of the
nurses that are in your life and I will
say please kiss a nurse this week and
then they are your mom they are your dad
you have been your dad they are any
anybody in your life that are nurses
please reveal them because without
nurses we can't have hospitals without
nurses we cannot have really anything
else in the world you all knew what
happened not drink of it and so if we
didn't have nurses where would we be
today so again I would like to shout out
to all the nurses all over Chandler and
all over Arizona happy nursing week
thank you mayor and City attorney do you
have any admonitions for her invitation
for us to kiss the nurses as well
anything you would add to that or
well thank you so much for allowing me
to say that that we need to kiss a nurse
and on my way out if feel free to kiss
me because I'll be walking right down
that way okay
we've already signed up for that mayor
I'm so much speechless today nice man I
know we lost control mayor
as council member Cena say we had the
privilege of uh giving 30 Chandler area
students uh recognition for joining the
military we had the Navy Army
Marines and the Air Force guys I don't
know where they were but I'm going to
make some phone calls next year we're
gonna have to get those Air Force guys
down actually they were temperature was
over 90 degrees that's it that's what it
was yeah
actually I think they had a back-to-back
event and this was yet the third one so
anyway no worries well the kids enjoyed
it the mayor gave out some coins I said
a few words and I really appreciate the
support of what they're doing and what's
the best part about that uh the parents
were in the audience we had a few words
for them on how to uh deal with their
children uh being away from home it's
tough it's tough life for everyone so
um wishing them the worlds of success I
want to thank the veterans commission
they have been what about 12 14 months
now maybe and yeah they had been an
aggressive group of individuals they're
doing a lot of things out in our
community kudos to them particularly
Shane Levinson who actually spearheaded
thee or you know was a point of contact
for that and the best and your staff
thank you great job on that so and as
you said Happy Mother's Day and I'll be
first to give you a kiss because Mark
can't get over here
council member Stewart thank you mayor
and uh congratulations to all the the
graduates and Valley Christian here
tonight uh you picked the right night
that's for sure last week last session
was about an hour and 15 minutes so and
uh we make you stay to the end in order
to get your credit so you lucked out you
have to tell your friends that but hey
I'm a proud dad I have a ASU WP Cary

my son Cole

him but again I want to express all my
congratulations to the high schoolers
the trade school folks the college
graduates Etc this is that season when
everybody is taking that next step in
their journey of life whether that's
going to college whether that's going to
trade school whatever that may be
um this is a good time for a lot of
families so I'm super proud and Cole
will continue to celebrate your
accomplishments and I and I uh I know
the sky's the limit for you so you know
I was really happy to see it kind of
give the shout out to piefection uh you
know Chandler is such a huge small
business supporter and they are the
lifeblood of what makes us work every
day and and what makes this city as
great as it is so I'm just grateful to
see their continued success and and look
forward to Saturday and then
um the last thing I want to say is Happy
Mother's Day and uh for those mothers
that are still with us and those that
are not uh let's spend a special day on
Sunday thinking about them and and
treating them to pancakes and whatever
it is that you do at home that's what we
do so anyway thanks very much
