next on our agenda is the public hearing
anx
21-0005 Harris Place annexation of
approximately 3.4 Acres west of the
South West corner of Ocotillo McQueen
Road I'd like to open this public
hearing and have a staff presentation
good evening mayor and council members
this is a presentation by staff for
public hearing annexation
the property is located west of the
southwest corner of McQueen and Ocotillo
Road
and the surrounding land uses are
Ocotillo Road then city park to the
north
single-family Lots located within
Maricopa County to the South
119th Street and then pad for commercial
to the east
West Kirby way and then pad for single
family to the West
the site is approximately 3.4 acres and
it is zoned rural or ru43 within the
county
upon being annexed into the city it will
have an initial zoning of ag-1
the site has a general plan designation
of neighborhoods
and is currently being
and is currently in review for rezoning
by planning staff and will be
forthcoming to council for review
there are existing water Wastewater and
reclaimed water services available to
the site and staff has circulated the
request to City departments and no
negative comments have been received
this end staff's presentation and is now
open for questions
thank you and tell us your name please
Michaela Michaela thank you excellent
presentation thank you
um council do you have any discussion
points or questions for Michaela council
member Stewart Michaela great
presentation was that your first
presentation it was not it's my second
it's your second well I must have missed
the first one that was great thank you
for that I had a quick question on the
on the uh the water and the uh sewer is
that already there or will that be put
in after or after the zoning has changed
that's a great question
if you wouldn't mind Circle back let me
know thank you
there I suspect by consistency it's
probably available to the road when we
redid that and would just need to be
plumbed into the into that particular
parcel so that would be my my greatest
suspicion what I'm looking for a knot of
heads somewhere else that's correct it
is available in Ocotillo Road okay thank
you mayor all right uh vice mayor yeah
um
so I always ask this question Michaela
so
um time framing
we have any thoughts on when they're
going to start moving dirt and putting
something there
um no I do not have a time frame on that
but um it should it should be
forthcoming shortly and then more
information will be available and this
will be single-family homes or
single-family homes correct all right
okay great
so keep working that issue let us keep
pushing them hard okay
we need houses Fair okay thank you
Michaela great job thank you any other
questions or comments from the council
there
thank you so much for doing this this is
this is awesome I just wanted to say
good job oh keep up the good work thank
you
wow
feeling the love
is there any questions or discussion
from the audience related to this
annexation
hearing now and none I'd like to close
the public hearing our second public
hearing on adoption of the FY
2023-24 annual budget and 24 to 33
Capital Improvement program CIP and
setting of The property tax levies I'd
like to open this public meeting and
have a staff presentation
oh
that means it's me yeah we kept we kept
looking to Melissa setting something up
well inflation has gotten so bad that I
can't even pay attention
so I
thank you Oh I thought I would do that
on behalf of Matt Dunbar who could not
be with us this evening he's the
assistant director of budget policy he
is off with his family enjoying a
well-deserved vacation so tonight as the
mayor said is the official public
hearing of our 2023-24 proposed budget
and
2024-2033 capital Improvement program as
well as the 2023-24 property tax levy
so there's been much public discussion
I'm going to put on my glasses here
um up leading up to this evening and
while tonight's presentation is a very
high level
it is intended to give residents a broad
view of this budget and the CIP with
more detailed information found online
at chanberry z.gov forward slash budget
okay so our budget theme this year is
innovation at work and reflects our
desire to be Innovative while still
connecting with our history
as we heard Monday night with the great
history of our Goodyear canal and
McCullough house
um or
McCullough price house yes
and adhering to strong financial
policies and being structurally balanced
this budget also mirrors our spending
plan with the Marin Council strategic
framework in innovative ways provides
cost-effective quality services
maintains long-term Financial
sustainability and was developed by
engaging residents through many input
opportunities
so as the slide shows the total proposed
budget for fiscal year 2023-24 is 1
billion
656 million 274 385 dollars and the
largest fund is general fund which is
our main operating fund for the city and
represents 610.5 million of that total
the 1.6 billion dollar amount is a 22
and a half percent increase from the
current Year's 20 to 23 adopted budget
this increase includes an increase of
5.9 to our operating budget and 43.4
percent increase to our capital
for the general fund we're seeing an
increase of 23.8 percent in operate with
an operating increase of that is 16.9
and a more significant increase on the
capital side of 59.2 percent
so
we I do want to explain for a moment
here what the proposed budget increase
drivers are for the public and in this
year
um similar to last year we had an
increase in our revenues that reflect
the economic environment that increases
coming from the continued development of
within our city boundaries inflation
because as as folks are paying more for
things the transaction privilege tax off
that is actually increasing Revenue
slightly and strong consumer spending
we've also seen increases in our state
shared revenues with these updated
projections on the expenditure side
inflation is definitely increasing or
operating and our Capital budgets our
Personnel costs have increased as we
invest in our city Reef City Workforce
and retain employees through Market
merits and health care costs changes
we've also Incorporated some additional
positions in this budget which will help
move us forward with our strategic
framework that Council has put forth for
us
the capital projects increases that
we're seeing is really addressing our
aging infrastructure as Chandler
continues to to uh
age early on we put a lot of the
infrastructure in at the same time and
we're to the point in our history that
much of that is needing to be replaced
Bond authorized projects through the
2021 bond election
we're continuing to drive those projects
and Grant funded projects
and then a big part of this increase
also is the infrastructure projects that
we need to build to support the Intel
expansion those are going to be City
assets of about 178.5 million in
appropriation but the good news is that
there is an Arizona revised Statute that
allows the transaction privilege tax off
of that project to be captured and helps
us reimburse Chandler for the cost of
that infrastructure
finally the last two areas are grants we
continue to spend American Rescue plan
act funds and this is one of the
anomalies this year is we have probably
the highest carry forward budget we've
ever had in regards to overall Capital
costs and we've got Capital Kerry Ford
in our grants as well
um continued focus on grant
opportunities and having shovel ready
projects that may qualify we've been
very successful in Chandler in doing so
so we've got those grants built into the
capital plan
and then some good news because we have
additional one-time dollars this year in
our budget it has allowed the city to
look at paying down debt and there is a
large payment of 73 million Incorporated
in this budget that will generate
ongoing Savings in the future
oops
okay so just some brief highlights of
our operating budget this this budget
includes a reduction in the city
property tax rate for the eighth
consecutive year
it incorporates no change in our sales
tax rates and Chandler has one of the
lowest rates in in Arizona for
transaction privileged tax or sales tax
we do anticipate water Wastewater and
solid waste rate changes to move forward
with our cost of service recommendations
and just like our our residents as well
as much of our operations in Chandler
our water Wastewater and solid waste
funds are seeing increase in costs as
well so there are rate changes that are
anticipated to deal with that as well as
aging infrastructure in those areas
and then the third highlight is the
budget maintains existing service levels
and enhances programs tied to the
Strategic council's strategic framework
this budget adds funding for labor
Association commitments and general
employee Merit and markets as I
mentioned just a second ago it plans
towards that debt reduction of 73
million
and then finally it maintains strong
reserves that bodes well for our AAA
Bond rating in Chandler and we've
continued to to do that in this budget
some Capital highlights we have a full
10-year plan we're only required to do a
five-year Outlook in our code but
Chandler takes that to a 10-year plan
across all of our assets
um it the 10-year plan totals almost 2
billion it is almost 300 million more
than the prior 10-year plan
it has been updated to reflect inflation
and aging infrastructure and it includes
like I mentioned the 178.5 in Intel
infrastructure projects
and additionally just one final note to
make here is we had the 2021 bond
election in which the the voters of
Chandler approved additional
authorization to move forward with our
Capital plan because of the increased
costs of these projects it the
authorization is we anticipated not
lasting as long as we had previously
thought so um previously it was about
seven years we we believe we'll probably
have to ask for additional authorization
at year four or five because of the
higher costs of projects
um one last thing is the very first year
of this Capital plan actually gets
incorporated into the adopted budget the
years 2 through 10 are is really just a
plan but it does get is it is part of
the action this evening as well
okay and then finally the last part of
this public hearing is to talk about the
2324 property tax levy
so this slide just to kind of put things
in perspective when it comes to the
property tax rate
um
so I'm going to turn the page here
it is important to note that the
Chandler portion of the property tax
bill is just about 11 percent of a
resident's Total Property Tax Bill so
depending on what school district you
reside in it could be slightly different
but on average just over 11 cents of
every dollar you pay in property tax is
designated to the city of Chandler
so to give a little bit more information
about property tax levy itself the levy
is calculated based on the limited
property values and there was a
legislative change implemented in 2015
where property owners are now assessed
on The Limited assessed value versus
full cash value and residential property
values cannot increase more than five
percent in any given year
so this year's updated limited property
assessed values received from the
assessor's office includes new property
added and shows changes in the market
values of existing properties
in fiscal year 2324 limited property
values
shown in the blue box are 3.9 billion
and generate about 42.6 million in Levy
um prior or the current year 22-23 we
were at 3.7 billion and it generated
40.8 million so that results in a 5.3
percent increase overall to the property
values in Chandler
of that 1.9 percent is new property and
3.4 is an increase to your existing
property
so
part of this budget is an actual
reduction to the primary property tax
rate of one penny so in total if you add
primary and secondary tax rates together
we are we go from one dollar and
10 cents 10 it's
0.1026 to a dollar
0.0926 and that really just helps reduce
or minimize the impact of those
increases in the property values and
it's important to note that Marin
Council has actually done this this is
the eighth consecutive year that Marion
Council has reduced the primary property
tax rate in Channel
so the impact of the city tax rate
reduction to the median value homeowner
is also an important thing to isolate
here for the purpose of this public
hearing
The Limited property value based on the
Maricopa County assessor's office in
2024 in the middle column is 234
thousand six dollars
if it were full cash value you can see
that number right above it but we are
capped at that five percent
so the assessed limited cash value it we
take 10 percent of that and that's what
is calculated
um for the purpose of your property tax
bill
so we take 100 divide that by a hundred
dollars of assessed value multiply it by
the the tax rate and it results in a
total City portion of your property tax
bill of
258.95 so that is your annual Bill and
that's that 11 of your overall property
tax bill
so what that represents is a ten dollar
and seven Cent increase overall or 84
cents a month
and with that
um of course that incorporates that
Penny reduction in the primary rate
Incorporated in the budget
and really helps minimize the impact of
those home values that you're seeing
an increase each year over the last few
years
okay and then finally the key dates just
a quick overview we've been through a
lot of public meetings we've had
tentative adoption in May
tonight's the public hearing and final
adoption and then there'll be one final
action
um so for your consideration resolution
5708 adopts the 20 23-24 annual budget
which would start July 1st it sets the
amount proposed to be raised by direct
property Taxation and it adopts the
2024-2033 capital Improvement plan
tentative and final adoption of the
ordinance 5059 I'm setting the property
tax levies would not come forward until
the June 26th and 29th Council meetings
for more information residents can visit
Chandler az.gov forward slash budget or
call our budget office at 480-782-2254
and with that Marin Council
be happy to take any questions
so I I'm just grateful to council again
for us offering some property tax relief
and I know if uh if you lived in
Illinois or other states you wish you
would have a property taxes the way they
are is there that's a major source of
income but uh to me this is a it was a
it was a bit of a eye-opener for us to
look at the amounts but considering of
where those uh budget increases are
coming from the The Unfinished projects
the Intel the inflation I think it's uh
it's an accurate budget and it's one
that will allow us to continue to
provide great service with without
opulence to our community so I'm
grateful for your work and city managers
and the rest of Team Chandler to get us
to where we are Council questions or
comments
yeah and those are great comments and
you know um
there's no secret that you know
governments under I don't want to say
attacks but it's questioning out
throughout our society but scrutiny
thank you that was what I was thinking
about
um but this budget was based upon a very
majority of it about the third from the
1300 uh residents business owners that
took our budget survey and a lot of the
elements you'll see in this budget is
based upon your comments Alone
um this budget
um is a was a robust and getting better
by the way city manager and I thank you
and Don and your staff the process is
getting better and better and quite
Frank is a very transparent process
um all the meetings are open to the
public we've had I don't know half a
dozen or so we had all day budget
hearing
um and Pastor uh cherion
I'm going to quote you and I thank you
because you did it you challenged us for
better times ahead
well this budget actually is a better
times ahead so thank you for your words
of wisdom you must have seen this before
we talked about it right
it was in your heart right okay
um so like I said I'm proud to say that
this is a product of local government of
your government working for you
listening to you and then coming up with
the addressing those issues that you
told us you need needed to be addressed
so thank you very much it's your budget
we're just approving it uh of the next
week so again thank you for your
thoughts and staff of course the mayor
said thank you as well
got some umbrellas
what is it thank you mayor for your
leadership
um to this this is my third years of
going to the budget process and truly I
am amazed and blessed to be part of this
team that could really bring something
like that together 1.6 billion dollars
is not little small change for us to sit
up here and have to eradicate and work
on and making sure that we make sure
everybody every place in the city is
well taken care of from our employees to
their health care and everything else
that we have to do with the roads and
all so I'm truly blessed to live in this
city I've been here for 36 years and
every single day I'm seeing our staff is
giving a hundred percent to everything
that they do and done your team is
amazing some of you are sitting there
come on let's give them a hand thank you
so much for everything that you do
appreciate everything you do thank you
keep up the good work and again The Best
Is Yet To Come
council member Poston then councilman
senas
well it's one of the newer council
members I just wanted to take the time
to one say thank you to all of the staff
for the many many questions we had and
um reading a 500 750 page budget book is
a little bit intimidating when you do it
for the first time so I had a lot of
questions I wanted to say thank you you
know I was one that asked for a little
more time to consider the bigger picture
of the entire budget while considering
the reduction in the property tax and
then when I had that information was
ready to make the change thank you
Council and thank you mayor for allowing
me that time for being respectful of
that consideration and then being
respectful of my thoughts on that and
and moving forward with it I'm very
proud of this city I'm proud of this
Council and I'm so thrilled to be here
so thank you and thank you to everyone
for making this a positive process
because it was a big one
council member and cenus and
councilmember Harris awesome thank you
mayor um I just want to say as my first
time going through this process with
your budget it was a great collaboration
between all the department heads staff
leadership and of course our residents I
feel that this budget truly reflects the
needs and the level of service that our
residents have come to expect as well as
a consistency and stability that our
residents come to expect so great work
to everybody and thank you Council for
being great mentors through this process
as well
that's remember Harris yeah I just want
to Echo some of the sentiments just you
know over eight months we had Moss pool
meetings
um meetings were long they were tiring
uh exhausting and each one I know right
[Laughter]
yes and we had a good times too but the
most important thing about our our many
considerations was you the constituents
you the residents your input uh has been
just great over this over this period of
eight months and we were we were taking
input even up into this moment because
we wanted to make sure your voices were
heard and your voices was reflected in
this budget and I can honestly say as an
accountant
um that this budget is very fiscally
sound
um is uh it's exciting to know that our
property taxes are being reduced but
also we're
um in the lane of a great economy in the
city of Chandler underneath your mayor
and Council and so we are looking
forward to implementing this budget to
meet your needs that you have found to
be very important and again I mean
infrastructuring aging infrastructure
and many other different things that Don
had already covered I just want to say
I'm very proud of this budget and I'm
I'm ready let's let's move this thing
forward thanks mayor
thank you so much
councilmember Stewart thank you mayor
and I Echo the sentiments of
mayor and Council I mean you know my
kids will tell you I'm kind of a I watch
the budget right like we have to we have
to really really talk a lot before we
get appetizers you know I mean it's one
of those things that uh that it takes a
family meeting
obviously I get dessert I don't miss
that but uh
but but we diligently took our time with
this budget and this is my sixth and you
know staff will tell you Don will tell
you and Josh that I'm kind of I want to
come in and go oh you know and what are
we spending all this money on and then
and then they they kind of talk me back
and then they kind of break it down like
they did in this this one pager here so
that I can look at the lowest cost of
service the lowest taxes great roads
great Parks the lowest crime rate in 40
years fastest response times for our
health and medical we paid off our debt
to the psprs system when some cities are
looking at 30 to 40 years we just paid
it off or we're getting ready to when we
push yes tonight
to make sure that our public safety
personnel is taken care of another
retirement they put a lot on the line
for us so so listen
we reviewed this budget in detail and I
will tell you as a a fiscal conservative
as a compassionate conservative all of
this planning and all this things that
we do we get to take care of the
community that that can take care of
themselves because we have extra dollars
to do that and so and I looked at this
and I just grabbed this thought twenty
dollars a month for the average home in
Chandler for all of this for your
property taxes sales tax and the
businesses that we have here in the
Great Schools it's a great place to live
so I'm really proud of the city I'm
proud of the community and the people
that live here and and the questions
that I get out on the street are never
about the things that fail other cities
you know it's it's tweaking the dials as
we talk about here at Chandler we're
just trying to make it better every day
and so tomorrow's going to be sunny and
the next day is going to be sunny too
it's going to be a good place to live
for a long time so thanks very much
mayor thank you all right thank you
Council
so again this is not the actual vote but
this is uh the public hearing on the
same is there any discussion from the
audience related to this
hearing none all right I would like to
close our public hearing
on the
um
related to the budget
with that next on our agenda is the um
do we have any unscheduled public
appearances
received any cards I don't know if
someone had asked to speak but I don't I
had not received any cards uh we passed
your thing
I I think her concern was on the consent
agenda but so did she bring a card or
okay
you're good
okay
we have security issues regarding
um the Alleyways in Chandler and
um that's what we wanted to talk to you
guys about
on Folly Street in particular
okay well you have
if you state your name and address for
the record please and you have up to
three minutes to share your thoughts we
cannot engage with you because this is
unscheduled public appearance according
to open meeting law
my name is Vicki Berglund I live at 2310
East folley Street and we have an
Alleyway that backs up to a Santan Park
and in the past there was a shooting
we've had our house vandalized
um our truck stolen
um
drug deals in the alley and that's why
we're here today to see if we can get
the alley you know
blocked off and
um the property owners would like to
have the city of Chandler
we'd like to be able to
take care of the maintenance and absorb
the property into our current Lots
and it also is good for the budget
because city of Chandler will not be
responsible for the maintaining of that
alley
but all of our neighbors on our street
are in agreement
um I've personally been working on this
for about a year so this is coming full
circle and I've been working with
Stephen Shea with the city of Chandler
real estate department our real estate
section
and um just recently I just wanted to
let you guys know too we've we've been
to other states looked at their roads
um we've we've been this last week using
uh some scooters enjoying the city of
Chandler with all the little sidewalks
and paths and everything so with
Chandler is a great place to live
so and this is my very first city
council meeting and uh thank you all for
listening welcome you nailed it yeah
city manager please extend our gratitude
to Stephen Shea for working with her and
uh for bringing that issue tonight that
we already passed that will bring some
security to our neighbors yeah so yeah
all right
um mayor council member Harris um city
manager is it possible that if the um if
the neighbors have put together some
type of petition or some type of written
document for us to see as well while
you're in the process of engaging that
situation could you share it with us
thank you yeah
all right
um so with that I'd like to close our
regular meeting and we'll share
announcements at our second
all right like to call to order our
special meeting of the Chandler city
council and um
clerk please take their own mayor Hartke
here vice mayor Orlando president
council member encinas your council
member Alice here council member Stewart
here councilmember Harris council member
Poston here we have a quorum thank you
so much Council there is a single item
on this agenda which is
the resolution 5708 to adopting the
annual budget to the amount that's so
presented but someone will probably
mention the entire thing in Emotion is
there a motion
Council memory Stewart I'd like to
motion that we approve the resolution
5708 adopting the annual budget in the
amount of 1 million
1 billion 656 million and a bunch of
little zeros
I second that mayor so we've got a
motion and a second on the floor we we
already had kind of opportunity to share
in this but um anything before we vote
on this Council

City Clerk
Council next is our public announcements
I've got a few I'd like to share with
you all
first on June 27th we have the Bechtel
ribbon cutting this is one of our
technology companies that has moving an
office to Chandler I want to thank uh
our economic team Micah Miranda etc for
bringing that to us this facility will
serve customers in the semiconductor
batteries and Battery material Center
Chandler is a top destination for tech
companies offering a business friendly
climate and world-class labor force and
we're excited to welcome Bechtel to
Chandler Council look forward to seeing
many of you there on this particular
date
secondly
so the downtown Chandler Community
Partnership is off
this is floaties and free root beer
floats now that's something to get
excited about
it I can't see my announcements
then I felt like I was talking in a
tunnel
so uh
for whatever reason on um next Wednesday
June 21st several downtown businesses
are offering free root beer floats and
here's the catch you have to be wearing
a pool floatie to get one businesses
include the following burst of
butterflies craft 24 mingling Grays
Santan Brewing Company
the perch
and I am hoping to see all of you in
your floaty pictures on social media
next Wednesday and we want to thank the
dccp downtown Chandler partnership for
organizing this fun promotion and
I don't know whether Kim Moyers is here
Kim I have a question you can answer can
you get more than one root bear float on
the same day with the same floating
you can make this a
you can make this a floaty crawl so to
say
all right
thank you for that
[Music]
um
secondly I
or thirdly I would just like to say
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out
there
and since this is at the end of a
meeting I have a dad joke
what do you call a song about a tortilla
it's a wrap
council member encinas
thank you mayor that was a good joke
there
uh first off I just want to
um wish a very happy Pride to all of our
residents here in Chandler this month is
a time to celebrate Pride our history
our freedom and especially kindness I
want to highlight some great strides
that our city and our leadership has
done for us here in our city such as
passing the ndo last year unanimously
um making policy like this makes members
of our community feel more at home so
thank you to the previous Council thank
you guys for all your efforts
um in doing so and thank you and happy
Pride everyone happy Father's day too
yeah
council member Ellis thank you mayor

South Park Chandler self-cap Foundation
to uh to watch as a new Miss juneteen is
crowned the Miss Juneteenth Arizona
scholarship program will take place at
Chandler Center for the art the
contestant take part in workshop and
Community Services activities constantly
to boost uh the whole program and making
it such an amazing thing for the young
ladies that are here in Chandler and
throughout Arizona those Workshop focus
on our career opportunities budgeting
current events and much more so I would
like to extend a good luck and actually
lots of work that they had put so right
now I'm wishing them the best so
tomorrow Sunday uh Friday night we're
all going to be there tomorrow night to
get to see them and I'm looking forward
to meet the new Queen who or should I
say princess who's gonna be crowned out
there another thing that I have tonight
uh mayor is that I would like to wish
all my Caribbean American friends that
are here in Chandler happy Caribbean
month because it is uh the month of June
is that month where we enjoy each other
and we spend a lot of time eating some
good food the Caribbean people come from
a few of these countries that I will
mention Cuba Barbados Dominican Republic
Jamaica Trinidad and of course Haiti so
to mention just a few every June we
celebrate our uniqueness of the unique
culture that we bring here to the United
States and the contribution of the
current Caribbean people to our country
here and also to the communities that we
live in I hope that you'll take you all
of you may earn console and everybody in
the audience will take the time a moment
to appreciate the Caribbean people that
you've crossed paths with in the past
and to continue meeting along the way
thank you so much again happy Caribbean
month
thank you
thank you Mary didn't one of our
candidates from last year councilmember
Ellis when was the top top top uh Miss
uh winner right and then we had one that
placed correct so both our young ladies
either one in or place right okay good
so we're going to have um some
scholarship for them
other than Happy Father's Day nothing
else tonight mayor thank you
councilmember Stewart thank you mayor
hey uh this Sunday the Chandler men of
action our African-American men's group
here in Chandler will be holding their
fifth annual mixer so it's time for our
community to get out and celebrate with
them it'll be at uh I think founding
fathers from two to five this coming
Sunday and so that'll be a great event
so they've been a part of our community
for decades and uh they've been helping
youth in our community uh for a long
time so I will be there on Sunday
hopefully you can too and I did want to
give a quick shout out to our Channel
economic development team
um we recently were awarded the Arizona
Chamber of Commerce best city for
business and uh that didn't come by
accident there was an intentional effort
by mayor and Council and by staff that
came to us and said hey you know we
really want to work on some things as
relates to being creating opportunity
for our entire uh community and creating
jobs and things like out and so it was a
purposeful effort and I want to commend
micas and your staff for everything
you've done uh to really make this a
place that's truly a live work play
emphasize the work sometimes but thank
you for that
that's all I have mayor thank you
councilmember Harris thanks mayor
um also I want to Echo
um some of the things that uh council
member uh Ellis said about the pageant
tomorrow just making sure we all get out
there to celebrate Miss Juneteenth
um that is going to be at the Chandler
Center of the Yards tomorrow at 6 p.m to
9 00 p.m and so I know we're going to be
there you should be there uh everyone
should be there so we hoping that you
guys will all come out support also in
in light of Freedom week we're
celebrating Juneteenth uh in the city uh
in the city of Chandler as you all know
that the city of Chandler mayor council
pass
um
um past uh past the holidays so we're
now in sync with the federal holiday the
state holiday and now the city
um celebrates this and giving our
employees like the day off on Monday uh
so they're going to get opportunity for
that and we were excited to pass that
also on Saturday we're going to also
have more celebrate on Juneteenth as we
are going to have downtown this right
here downtown we're going to have um
culture music in the park that's going
to be on Saturday night it's going to be
amazing uh get ready to dance okay we're
gonna have an amazing time and I know
the mayor is going to be out there
dancing as he does every single year
and councilwoman Ellis and all the other
Council I tell you we're going to have
the longest dance line ever ever okay as
you see the pictures there so Mark we're
gonna see you too also also Vaughn
Willis from Vaughn Willis and air candy
is going to be a live band is going to
be out there we're going to have a
little dj as well as an American Idol
contestant Isaac Brown he's going to be
there as well from recent American Idol
so you don't want to miss that treat and
then after that on Saturday we're going
to go to west alley barbecue to
celebrate the after party uh and so you
want to be up all night long guess what
Chandler has it for you this Saturday
it's going to be the longest night ever
and that's done at one o'clock in the
morning so I'm expecting to see all
American Council there
and don't worry about the heat we do
have coolers out there at the park the
last thing I share with you is that
recently
um gin Korean barbecue grand opening
that recently happened mayor and I had
the opportunity to attend it was amazing
it was really good good concept
good concept and we was able to sample
some of the delicious food
um that we was able to cook right in
front right in front of our faces it's
it's an amazing experience and I hope
that their business have a lot of
success it was just great so I that's
the place I'm living at from now on
because that place is the delicious okay
delicious and I gotta tell you honestly
Chandler has some of the best food
places and experiences to eat at so when
you guys get a chance go out there
experience that this weekend this whole
weekend we're going to be downtown
having a good time meet some of your
residents and joy is going to be about a
couple thousand people there this
weekend so let's do it let's have a good
time let's let's support our business
owners downtown so don't eat go to our
small businesses downtown get your food
then come to the the uh to the hangout
thanks man
councilmember
that announcement just wore me out yeah
man I don't know how else to put it oh
yeah
I feel I need a nap after that mayor I
started off getting energized now I'm
exhausted I don't even know what to do
I'm gonna go fast here
calm down
all right I'll just I'll be very quick I
just wanted to say that this week many
of us on Council attended the grand
opening of rallies uh Bashas support
center which is very important to
Chandler it's going to keep
merchandising and operations jobs right
here in Chandler Bashas of course has
been in our city since the 1930s
um and so this is a legacy business that
we are so glad is choosing to stay in
Chandler which of course was the right
choice so just congratulations to them
we are so excited to have them there and
then Happy Father's Day to everyone out
there despite the bad dad jokes
so what do eggs like to drive
councilmember posting
yolks wagons
laughs
city manager some days I don't know how
to follow
I have to be candid with you mayor and
Council just very briefly wanted to
thank you again for all your positive
comments about the budget tonight
um this was a great effort and wonderful
to see such support for it I know it
means the world to our budget team to
hear how we've been able to achieve your
vision through this year's budget and so
thank you so much for all the positivity
on that wanted to particularly again
thank Ms Lang and her excellent team
that spends many many hours over months
and months and months putting this
document together all of the budget
staff as well as all of our departments
that participate in putting together
this really important document and it
always uh caps it off with a wonderful
show of support to hear that from you
how we've uh again met your expectations
so thank you so much
well with that as uh my joke said it's a
wrap and Council remember we are
resuming uh finishing up an exact
session
