good evening everyone could I please ask
you to take your seats
May Happy New Year
wow everyone paid attention and listened
and sat right down very quickly I
appreciate that good evening and welcome
to the 2025 town of Gilbert
inauguration first I'd like to
acknowledge the council members that are
in the room we we have well I'm mayor
Bridget Peterson in case you didn't know
that dressed in purple usually people
can recognize me right away we have um
vice mayor Scott Anderson mayor we have
council member Kathy tilki we have
council member Chuck Bon Giovani we have
council member Jim torguson we have
council member Bobby Buckley and we have
council member young
Kowski I think I have a few other
elected officials in the room from
chance L from the county if you could
please stand and be recognized we have
we even have judge Ray in the room who's
a former Gilbert council member and vice
mayor we have Maricopa County Assessor
Eddie cook we have mayor Kevin hary from
Chandler and Matt Orlando council member
from the city of Chandler oh and M Mark
Stewart who is now a Maricopa County
Board of
supervisor district one here in covering
all almost all Gilbert welcome to this
evening's event we are so happy to have
you here and we are ready to get started
first on our agenda is the posting of
the Colors by the Gilbert Police
Department and Gilbert Fire and Rescue
honor
guards my veterans stand right
up for
could I please have Katie and Taylor
Anderson join us for the Pledge of
Allegiance thank
you I pledge allegiance to the flag of
the United States of America and to the
Republic for which it stands one nation
under God indivisible with liberty and
justice for
all thank you Katie and Taylor now if I
could ask Austin watts to please come
down and offer the national anthem

proudly we
held at the Twilight
last
gleaming who broad
stripes and bright
stars through the
perous
fight or the ramp parts we
watched were so
gly
streaming and The Rock Ro it's red
glare the bombs
bursting in
air gave proof through the
night that our flag was still
there oh say does that
star
spangled
bner yet way
or the
land of the
free and the home of the braad

now I'd like to invite
Elder John Lewis and area Authority 70
for the Church of Jesus Christ of
latterday saints to offer the
invocation Our Father in
heaven we are grateful to gather on this
historic evening in Gilbert
Arizona to recognize our town
Council to thank them for their
service for their commitment of giving
of their time and
talents to three who finished their
service this night we recognize them

Anderson and we now as a community
unite around three who tonight will
participate in this inauguration
ceremony our Mayor Scott
Anderson council member lions and
council member
Buckland and as a community we unite
around them and other council
members as we enjoy living in this
community together we Express gratitude
also to the town staff who
continue to make Gilbert a clean safe
Vibrant
Community we're grateful to live in this
land with many
freedoms and we realize
that there will be challenges and
problems and as they come we pray
together as a community we
unite and
work and discuss and find answers to
those
challenges and as we continue to prepare
for the future
we pray that there will be many happy
days
ahead we
offer these feelings and
Thoughts with gratitude for our many
blessings in this area and we do so in
the name of Jesus Christ

a few words to the audience do you want
to use that microphone or you can take
the hand for this is
f I didn't know I was
speaking I just want to thank you all
for being here uh it was uh it's just
such an honor to find out uh that you're
elected that the community chose you to
represent them and my commitment to you
is I will represent every citizen with
all of my heart right I did this on
prayer and on prayer I will continue in
hopes that we on Council will continue
towards buildout to make this or
continue to make this the greatest
community in the united states to live
in thank you to my family lovely wife
Dom BL my family for supporting me
through the entire it was a long year
thank
you first of all I want to thank
everybody for coming out tonight I I
don't think I've seen this chamber this
full but just a few times so I really
want to thank everyone who came here to
support all of us and those who worked
so hard uh helping us get to this point
I'm really looking forward to serving
all of you and I would appreciate just
uh your continued prayers and support
and feedback I think we've got a great
few years ahead of us we got a great
team put in place and I really want to
thank my family for all the sacrifices
they made uh my youngest son and my
eldest son my daughter and all the rest
of my kids who just put it out there and
I can't tell you the number of hours
they work to make things happen and all
the unteers from our friend group and
just I can't tell you how much I
appreciate it so I want to work to make
you guys proud and make Gilbert the
place that we're all proud to be a part
of and I thank all of

you I did know I was going to speak a
little
bit not
long uh first I want to want to thank
everyone for being here I love Gilbert I
love all of you thank you for all the
things you do for our town I especially
want to thank my family for being here
and the support they are my beautiful
wife for being here putting up with
Patrick next to her which is something
that uh is is not easy to
do um I wanted to share with you
something that I noticed uh on my son's
wall in his house it's called house
rules and the reason I wanted to share
that with you is kind of feel like
Gilbert should have some house rules
over the next four or five years and let
me read these very quickly uh this is
kind of like the David Letterman top 10
this is the house rules I hope for the
town of Gilbert over the next few years
first of all try new things let's try
new things in the town of Gilbert as we
grow towards buildout let's try some new
things doing it differently that's
what's made us unique over all these
years secondly be kind to one another we
know how important that is in this
community being kind we know that the
town of Gilbert has been cited as one of
the top caring cities in the entire
country and that's because of you and
the things you do the volunteers that we
have look at the giving machines that we
had in the downtown which often times
have led the world in giving and I'm
looking forward to that report this year
and what that might bring to us next
learn from your mistakes we try to do
that all the time I know Patrick tries
to do that all the time
a lot he makes a lot of mistakes but we
make even more so let's try
to learn from them uh next respect one
another that's an important thing
respect that we have for one another in
this community don't be afraid to say
you're sorry um I can say that I'm sorry
for some of the decisions maybe that
we've made in the last couple of years
but they've been for the better of the
community and you'll see that as we
continue to
grow uh Embrace change we have to change
in order to maintain the quality of life
that we have in
Gilbert work hard and play harder and I
know we do that in the town just based
on how the efforts that the citizens of
Gilbert make and I see the the ones that
are playing even harder in all of our
parks and the things that they're able
to do be yourself live in the
moment dream
big don't ever forget that dream big and
hug one another often as John Lewis does
all the
time so thank you for being here and I
look forward to the next four years and
and look forward to working with and
serving each one of you thank you very
much

except my seat in the

doing this as a Voice vote since we may
not be sitting in the correct
seats uh I would like to begin by

council member Buckley
for uh the office of vice mayor for the
year
2025 do I have a second second
that it's been moved and seconded all in

oppos motion carries congratulations
